Reviews

  • Fun but unfilling

This is not a book with a plot or continuation of the story. It is a “filler” with each chapter providing the specific bonding experience of the characters, except Violet, during Threshing. Some of the stories more fun than others, but, why is the author spending time doing this instead of furthering the original story? There’s nothing of significance here that we don’t already know or suspect.

Eagerly waiting for book 4 of the series and instead this book gives you everyone’s threshing day experience. It could have been added later.

Yarros is an excellent writer and even though I really enjoyed this book I was also disappointed expecting a continuation to the cliff hanger of book three. Still waiting to that continuation of the story.

  • A Little Novella With A LOT to Unpack

I finished Threshing Day in about three hours, and this was exactly the little Fourth Wing fix I needed while we impatiently wait for book four. Except… “filler” might be the wrong word, because this little novella has been living rent-free in my head for DAYS. There is so much new information packed into such a short read. So many new questions. So many little details that had me stopping and going, “Hmmmm… Rebecca, what exactly are you doing here?” 👀 There are things that suddenly feel important, things I’m looking at differently now, and still so many pieces of this giant puzzle left to put together. And because this fandom can turn a single sentence into a 47-page conspiracy theory, I’m not saying ANYTHING else. 😂 I refuse to spoil it. What I will say is that this doesn’t feel like a throwaway novella written just to keep us occupied between books. There are enough breadcrumbs here to make me think we’ll be coming back to some of these details later—and now I have even more questions than I did before. Was it worth dropping everything and devouring it in three hours? Absolutely. If you’re already invested in the Empyrean series, don’t skip this one. It’s short, it’s easy to fly through, and there’s a lot more hiding in these pages than I expected. 5 stars. Now please give us book four because my conspiracy board is running out of room. 😂🐉📚

I typically don’t read novellas when in the middle of a series. This one gave a glimpse into several important characters everyone wants to learn more about. Well written, but it’s not necessary to enjoy the series. Take it or leave it.
