Merit in reading the series but ultimately not fulfilling and was glad to be done. You’ll most likely find yourself skim-reading to get to the end faster and not in a good way.

Great series overall. The continued impossible situations overcome only to find themselves in another impossible situation and moral struggle was exhausting by the end. I’m fine with the MC’s arc overall but so many other characters left hanging and so many promises left unfulfilled. My least favorite book in the series.

What could have been an all time ending to an all time sci-fi series stumbles and crashes thanks to a convoluted subplot inserted smack dab in the middle of the final battle. wildly jarring. You will leave this book not only questioning the in-verse logic (and it’s not even the physics defying weapons) but perhaps also your own. That alone could be excused by the excellent first half that does the nigh-impossible and create a deeply interesting and surprising final battle setup (particularly given what has been spoiled from the very first page of book 1). The real dagger that makes this a 2-star experience is the running trope that is about as annoying as having 1 wet sock on in an otherwise dry outfit. That being the endless, pointless, and moronic fighting between the main characters about the mere act of going into battle. This should have been ironed out 3 books ago. That and the extremely moody MC starts to get real old. Seriously how does one live for thousands of years in a war torn galaxy as a grizzly veteran and explode at shipmates over minor semantics about the nature of god? And I mean literal semantics.

I read sci-fi and fantasy fiction for escapism, not reality. This author took us on a journey that although was often verbose, was mostly enjoyable. But this ending is absolute trash. Completely unsatisfying, leaving multiple threads hanging, and really feels like a middle finger to the reader. What a waste.

The title says it all. This book is a must read for those already neck deep into the series. Flawless execution on the author’s part.

Too many series that start with grandeur and amazing characters, dialogue, and plot limp into their ending without matching what the magic that they started with. This book is the opposite of that; a fitting and majestic ending to a detailed, stunning, and very human magnum opus. Long live the true Emperor!
