Classic that still captivates

I read Through the Looking Glass to my grandchildren, ages 6 and 9 years old. The little one was watching a cartoon and asked to turn it off “because it’s too busy.” I also enjoyed it even more rereading it.

I wasn’t high, maybe that’s why this book didn’t make sense. I got through it somehow as a sober person by reading it in small bits - a chapter here, a paragraph there - just because it was on the classics list. It was daft nonsense. Not really a novel, more of a fever dream put to words. Maybe drugs would help to understand it, but I don’t think it’s worth it.

Instead of italics, it’s ALL CAPS screaming throughout. And no illustrations— though it’s all public domain. Get yourself a better edition.
