Not at a typical Kristen Hannah page turner

Unfortunately this book is far from the level of Kristen Hannah’s other novels. Given the depth and well-developed plots of The Nightingale and The Women, I found this book shockingly amateurish. It was a very slow, predictable read with an overly sappy ending.
A Bit of a Miss

I had read her book “Firefly Lane,“ so I was really excited to dive into this one. Overall it was a good read, and it did keep me invested until the very end. Yes, much of the storyline was easily predictable, as is the way in most novels within this genre, so that was not factored in to my 3-star review.
I was genuinely disappointed in the lack of emotional growth given to the sisters. The opportunity was there, yet I found myself frustrated with the stereotypical “weak female” attributes each was assigned. The middle sister seemed pointless in the story (the real miss…I wanted so badly for her character to be shine), and I kept waiting for the other two sisters to have their big moment that also never came.
If you need a generic read on a long flight, this will do. It just wasn’t my favorite.
True Colors

Another well written book by Kristen Hannah. Story of family,3 sisters -their loves and jealousies. The character of Winona is particularly well written I went from liking her , to detesting , her to loving her. Aurora was balanced and interesting also. Vivi Ann showed a beautiful looking person is often judged on the surface ,but often has so much more depth. Dallas turned out to be so much more than just a sexy tough Half Indian ne’er do well. His quiet wisdom is seen . Noah comes of age and finds his place in a real family and community after many tribulations . Family is what we make it and sometimes you have to fight obstacles to hold it together.
Definitely will recommend!

It’s hard to get enough of Hannah. I am so fortunate to have never read anything of hers until The Women earlier this year, and I have been captured by the stories. In awe at the writing. And moved at the ways in which she reveals the depth of her understanding of not just relationships, but the dynamics of relationships over years and decades, as effortlessly and as beautifully as she crafts a single image.
True Colors is wondrous, and there are still many more to read!
Kristin Hannah for the win again!
