“If you loved The Martian, you’ll go crazy for Weir’s latest.”—The Washington Post

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission—and if he fails, humanity and the earth itself will perish.

Except that right now, he doesn’t know that. He can’t even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it.

All he knows is that he’s been asleep for a very, very long time. And he’s just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

His crewmates dead, his memories fuzzily returning, Ryland realizes that an impossible task now confronts him. Hurtling through space on this tiny ship, it’s up to him to puzzle out an impossible scientific mystery—and conquer an extinction-level threat to our species.

And with the clock ticking down and the nearest human being light-years away, he’s got to do it all alone.

Or does he?

An irresistible interstellar adventure as only Andy Weir could deliver, Project Hail Mary is a tale of discovery, speculation, and survival to rival The Martian—while taking us to places it never dreamed of going.

For someone who never cries, let alone never read sci-fi. This book hit every emotional. The science bits a I love, even if I didn’t know things they explained it or I could easily google, and plenty I did. Sci-fi is not my normal genre but I ATE this book up. Rocky fist my bump.
  • Enjoyable Read

I haven’t read a book in this science-rooted style before, and I really enjoyed it! My favorite part was most definitely the beginning of the book, when most of the discoveries were made. Like the protagonist’s role as the “cool teacher,” I liked how the author made the scientific process “cool” throughout the book. I do feel fleshing out the relationships the protagonist has with the other characters would have made my experience more enjoyable. However, it was a fun, quick read on an interesting science adventure! I hardly put the book down after starting. I love the author’s wit and humor.

With Grace all the way through. Can’t wait for the movie, I hope it does the book justice!

Such a great book. I truly enjoyed the ups/downs and all around within the story and context of the atmosphere. The friendships and camaraderie was fantastic.

What a wonderful story. It's been a very long time since I have enjoyed a story this much. I will likely start reading it again as soon as I finish this review, who really needs to sleep anyway...😊

This book started out great eventually it just got overly scientific and lost the element of surprise and suspense to quickly to a so so ending.

This book took commitment for me to read. Personally, I enjoy more of an ensemble of characters and this book does have that ingredient, but as I hung in there, this is a great story. Great, surprising plot twist and always hope. It’s mostly about the love that develops between two friends and how that sustains life. I don’t want to give anymore away than that. It’s the most unique sci-fi read I’ve had in years.
  • A much better effort

The only other Weir book I’ve read was Artemis which I loathed so I was hesitant to read more of his work. I was pleasantly surprised with this book. It feels more mature with more mature characters. Yes there are some annoying pop culture references but it’s toned down and I do think there’s a bit too much technical jargon it is a fairly enjoyable read. My only other complaint was Rocky was a bit of a convenience for the main character in being able to engineer pretty much anything but I do appreciate the ending.

I don’t write reviews normally but this book was such a good ride. It left me feeling good about life and possibilities. Hope you read it with an open mind and sense of adventure.
  • Fun story, bad writing

Not sure why this is so highly reviewed. I loved the Martian, but found this book a chore to read. While the story is fun and exciting with just enough suspense to keep the reader engaged, the writing was like nails on a chalkboard the entire time. Childish writing, bad dialog and flat cliched characters. Who talks like this?! This could’ve been 5 stars with better writing.
